We are excited to offer Marisol Pure Atlantic Sea Salt!

A perfect accompaniment to FarmEats grass fed, pasture raised beef!

Marisol gourmet sea salts are gathered by hand from salt-pans in the protected nature reserves of the Ria Formosa and Sapal do Castro Marim on the Atlantic coast of Portugal’s East Algarve.

Natural salt crystallization, the purity of local Atlantic waters, and a traditional hand harvesting process dating back to Roman times enable us to produce sea salt completely naturally.

Marisol, Flor de Sal – truly natural salt flakes

The cream of the crop, Marisol Flor de Sal is the thin, glistening layer of flaky crystals that forms at the surface of the traditional salt-pans in southern Portugal’s Ria Formosa natural park.

No artificial processing

Marisol Flor de Sal is a truly natural gourmet salt. The salt flakes are skimmed off the brine by skilled artisans. Harvested crystals are not subjected to any artificial processes:

• The Algarve’s hot, dry summers guarantee natural evaporation by the sun and the wind – no need to heat the brine artificially.
• Gravity carries the brine from the evaporation ponds to small crystallization pans – no need to pump the brine mechanically.
• Flor de Sal is naturally white – no need to wash the crystals after harvesting.
• The flaky crystals are left to dry in the Algarve sunshine – no need for artificial drying.
Needless to say Marisol Flor de Sal is free from additives.

Sustainable source

The reason we harvest Flor de Sal this way is not just nostalgic. Traditional methods of gathering salt create a very small ecological footprint. Marisol’s business is run in partnership with local salt-pan producers, and together they help to conserve the salt-pans, natural estuaries, and Atlantic coastline within the Ria Formosa natural park. In addition, this economic activity creates alternative employment opportunities in a region typically dominated by tourism.

Superior taste

Marisol Flor de Sal flakes are harvested daily in the summer months. The young, fragile crystals grow for a few hours only before they are gathered. The way Flor de Sal is produced makes it rich in minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium. It is this specific composition, which gives Marisol Flor de Sal its distinctive flavor. A flavor, which is a world away from common table salt and other, processed sea salts.

How to use it

Marisol Flor de Sal is the perfect finishing salt for everyday use and brings a special taste to all prepared dishes. Its smooth flakes crumble between the fingers and melt on the tongue. Sprinkled over any prepared dish, the salt adds a delicate, subtle taste and enhances the intrinsic flavors of the ingredients.

How to store it

Flor de Sal should be stored in a way that keeps its natural moisture, the so-called ‘mother liquor’. This preserves minerals and essential elements contained in the natural sea salt such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium.

Marisol Sal Tradicional – artisan Atlantic salt

Marisol Sal Tradicional is a naturally white, unrefined sea salt gathered by hand in traditional salt-pans in southern Portugal’s Ria Formosa natural park. This artisan Atlantic salt retains its natural moisture and the seawater's minerals.

No artificial processing

Marisol Sal Tradicional is a truly natural sea salt, gathered from the bottom of the salt-pans. After harvest, the crystals are not subjected to any artificial processes:

• The Algarve’s hot, dry summers guarantee natural evaporation by the sun and the wind – no need to heat the brine artificially.
• Gravity carries the brine from the evaporation ponds to small crystallization pans – no need to pump the brine mechanically.
• Sal Tradicional is skillfully harvested – no need to wash the crystals after harvesting.
• The salt is left to dry in the Algarve sunshine – no need for artificial drying.
Needless to say Marisol Sal Tradicional is free from additives.

Sustainable source

The reason we harvest our Sal Tradicional this way is not just nostalgic. Traditional methods of gathering salt create a very small ecological footprint. Marisol’s business is run in partnership with local salt-pan producers, and together they help to conserve the salt-pans, natural estuaries, and the Atlantic coastline within the Ria Formosa natural park. In addition, this economic activity creates alternative employment opportunities in a region typically dominated by tourism.

Subtle taste

Marisol Sal Tradicional is harvested by hand in the summer months. Its crystals are allowed to grow for two to four weeks in the concentrating brine, which makes the salt rich in minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium. This specific mineral composition lends Marisol Sal Tradicional its balanced, subtle taste, when compared to common table salt and other, processed sea salts.

How to use it

Marisol Sal Tradicional is your everyday cooking salt for any culinary purpose. Its mineral composition enhances the intrinsic flavors of the food. Use it in coarse grade for cooking pasta, potatoes and vegetables, and in medium or fine grade for seasoning or a finer dispersal of flavor. The unprocessed salt crystals dissolve quickly and are little different in taste to Flor de Sal.

How to store it

Sal Tradicional should be stored in a way that keeps its natural moisture, the so-called ‘mother liquor’. This preserves minerals and essential elements contained in the natural sea salt.
